It's a case of WP:TWODABS which says 'If there are only two topics to which a given title might refer, and one is the primary topic, then a disambiguation page is not needed—it is sufficient to use a hatnote on the primary topic article, pointing to the other article.' Besides, there is already a hatnote in the 1981 article saying 'For the 2012 film, see Sattam Oru Iruttarai (2012 film)'. That should help readers get where they want. If the statistics say that the views are closer to each other, the primary topic might not exist. You say neither of the two articles says which is more significant, but anyone would easily agree with the 1981 film because of it is a milestone that it propelled it's lead actor to stardom (courtesy). You didn't seem to notice me quoting WP:PRIMARYTOPIC: 'A topic is primary for a term, with respect to long-term significance, if it has substantially greater enduring notability and educational value than any other topic associated with that term'. The remake has none of that. There is also a reason why The Rocky Horror Picture Show does not have the (1975 film) extension in the article name, even though it has a 2016 remake. I respect your position. However, the way you said looked as if the film made the actor notable, not the other way around. I want to quote WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and WP:DETERMINEPRIMARY, but I can't Wikilawyer either a lot or too much. However, I'll rephrase what it says: because criteria are not absolute, we can decide which criteria fit best for primacy. So far, the results seems mixed. Per WP:GUIDES or WP:PAG#Adherence, we can make some exceptions and use our common sense. My sense tells me that the films' impacts toward real-life were very minimal at best. Now for the articles... Re-reading the article, the old film might have inspired films about India's law system. However, I don't see how it impacted India's real-life law system itself. Not all originals are automatically primary. Reading the page about the remake, I see portion about casting. If plot synopses and a little more are added, we might revisit this. And again 72 out of 148 is less than 50% of daily views the original film would pass the second half of PT, but clearly failed to pass the first half. This isn't an issue of 'bias' towards younger views this is simply a failure to meet both requirements to invoke WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and deliberately ambiguate an article title. Sattam Oru Iruttarai (lit. 'The Law is a Dark Room') is a 1981 Tamil languageaction film directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar in his debut. The film stars Vijayakanth in the lead role. The film is about a man who wishes to avenge the killers of his parents. After its massive success and became a blockbuster, it was remade in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages. Recently, the film was also remade in Tamil again, by the director's granddaughter, Sneha Britto. The songs and score was composed by Shankar Ganesh.^[1]

Production[edit]

Sattam Oru Iruttarai is the directorial debut of S. A. Chandrasekhar.^[3] The film borrows its title from a dialogue spoken in Velaikaari (1949): 'Sattam oru iruttarai, aathil vakeelin vadham oru vilakku. aanal adhu ezhaikku ettadha vilakku', which translates to, '[The] law is a dark room where the lawyer's argument is a lamp. But it is inaccessible to the poor'.^[4] Chandrasekhar revealed that the script of the film was rejected by 20 producers.^[5] Producer Chidambaram chose Vijayakanth for the lead character after he was impressed by his performance in Neerottam. Selection of actor arose stiff opposition from some quarters protesting against giving the hero chance to Vijayakanth in the film. Despite these objections, the producer stood firm in his decision and made Vijayakanth the lead actor in the film.^[6]

Soundtrack[edit]

The music was composed by Shankar – Ganesh. Lyrics were written by Gangai Amaran, Poonguyilan and Gnani. The audio was released under the label Saregama.^[7]

Release and reception[edit]

Sattam Oru Iruttarai was released on 14 February 1981.^[8] On 1 March 1981, Ananda Vikatan positively reviewed the film, particularly the script.^[9]

Remakes[edit]

Sattam Oru Iruttarai was remade in Telugu as Chattaniki Kallu Levu (1981), in Hindi in as Andha Kanoon (1983), in Malayalam as Maattuvin Chattangale,^[10] in Kannada as Nyaya Ellide (1982),^{[citation needed]} and again in Tamil under the same title by S.A.C.'s granddaughter Sneha Britto (2012).^[10]

Legacy[edit]

The film's success established Vijayakanth as a star in Tamil cinema.^[6] The success also inspired similar themes about law system which were mostly directed by Chandrasekhar and his disciple Shankar.^[11][12]
